Ask-Seek-Knock

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11:9 NIV

This is a very well-known passage of scripture, since you can always hear people quoting it. I often find myself reminding others to ask, “you have not because you ask not.” We are good at reminding people in the area of asking, but when was the last time you told someone to seek? It does not roll off the tongue as quickly, at least not for some of us. Let’s not forget about knocking and the door will open to you. What door? How do I knock?

I received a text message the other day from Bishop R.E. Smith Sr, The Word of Outreach Christian Center pastor, in Little Rock, Arkansas. It said, “Ask for the principal things, seek the first thing and knock on the doors you intend to enter.”  Obviously, it caught my attention, and he had scripture references. I responded to him saying, you might see this in my next blog.

Proverbs 4:7 tells us that wisdom is the principal thing and James 1:5-6 tells us to ask for wisdom if we lack it. I need wisdom every day, how about you? Better ask! This well know scripture in Matthew 6:33 tells us to seek for the first thing, “the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.”  Psalm 27:8 says I will seek your face Lord. Psalm 34:10: "The young lions do lack and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing." Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart—Psalm 119:2. Seeking first things first has many benefits. What are you seeking?

1 Corinthians 16:9, For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries. First notice the word opened…..not door is opening but a door that is already open. Have you been knocking on doors of opportunity? Do you have every intention to enter into the open door? Revelation 3:7 reminds us that God opens doors that no man can shut; and when he shuts a door no man can open it. Knock on doors you intend on entering.

The bottom line to ask, seek, and knock is prayer. Communing with the Father, letting your requests be known to Him, seeking his face, and knocking on the right doors that only He can open.

Prayer is the mechanism used to knock, to seek and to ask.
